NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team dropped a 2-0 decision to Anna Maria College on Saturday afternoon in non-conference action.
The AMCATS (1-1-0 overall) netted a goal in each half to pick up their first win of the season. Alexandra Rowland scored on a penalty kick in the 33rd minute while Valentina Villa added a tally in the 86th.
Mitchell goalie Gemma Landry turned in another strong performance, finishing with 14 saves against 26 total shots.
Anna Maria's first-half penalty came after a collision by Landry and a field player on a 50-50 ball in the box. Rowland stepped up to take the kick and buried her attempt into the left side of the goal for the 1-0 advantage.
The AMCATS sealed the victory with the late score from Villa, who volleyed home a deflection in the box following a corner kick. Rachel Matloff picked up the win in goal and made a pair of saves.
Mitchell (0-2-0 overall) will next host Fisher College on Wednesday, September 8 at 3:30 p.m.
