
Baseball Soars Past Hawks
BRISTOL, R.I. – The Mitchell College baseball team ran their winning streak to five games on Tuesday afternoon, downing Roger Williams University, 4-1, in non-conference action at Paolino Field.
Following four scoreless innings, the Hawks scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the fifth. The Mariners then knotted the score in the top of the seventh, on a single up the middle by Michael Gajda (New Britain, Conn.). The Mariners added a pair of runs in the eighth on a passed ball and a fielding error, pulling ahead 3-1, before tacking on one more in the ninth on a single by freshman Braiden Alaimo (Enfield, Conn.).
Gajda went 2-4 with a double and one RBI, while Alaimo had an RBI single.
Sophomore Ethan Chavez (New London, Conn.) got the start and delivered three shutout innings. Junior Jacob Quiles (Wallkill, N.Y.) picked up the win after tossing three scoreless innings out of the bullpen.
The Mariners (16-13, 7-1 GNAC) return to play with a pivotal GNAC doubleheader against the University of Saint Joseph on Saturday, April 12. The Hawks (9-14, 3-5 CNE) play next on Thursday, April 10, at the University of Rhode Island.
