Women's Soccer Shut Out by Lesley
NEW LONDON, Conn. -- Lesley University cruised to an 4-0 victory over Mitchell College on Tuesday afternoon in a New England Collegiate Conference women's soccer clash at Alumni Field.
The Lynx scored just one goal in the first half, as the Mariners played intense and physical defense. The visitors broke the game open in the second half, however, pouring in three more goals to comfortably pull away. Sophomore forward Abby Kalou paced the Lynx, scoring a pair of goals to give her a team-best 10 on the season. The freshman duo of Zoe Curtaz and Kylie Chagnon also each found the back of the net for Lesley. Kalou added an assist in the win, setting up Curtaz off a throw in for the first goal of the game in the 19th minute.
Both squads entered the second half with good energy, yet it was the Linx who swung the momentum, as Kalou broke free and sailed home her ninth goal of the season just 23 seconds out of the intermission. Chagnon made it a three goal deficit when she took advantage of a loose ball in the penalty box in the 76th minute, while Kalou added her 10th goal of the year in the 84th minute to round of the scoring.
Goalkeeper Gemma Landry made 15 saves for the Mariners, the eighth game this season in which the sophomore has registered double digit saves. She now leads the New England Collegiate Conference with 150 saves, 27 more than Stephanie Bronowicki of New England College, who is second.
The Lynx found themselves with the majority of opportunities on offense, registering 19 shots on goal to just two for the Mariners. Freshman Cassandra Roman and Rahel Scully each were credited with a shot on goal for Mitchell, who are 1-1-2 in their last four games. Lesley earned two corner kicks and Mitchell had just one. Madison Reed made two saves in goal for Lesley.
Mitchell (5-7-3 overall, 1-2-2 NECC) will look to close out their regular season on a high note when they travel to face Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday, October 29th at 7:00 pm. Meanwhile, the Lynx play next in an out of conference tilt against Fitchburg State on Wednesday, October 26th at 6:00 pm.
