NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team suffered a 6–0 setback to the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Wednesday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Alumni Field.
Mitchell generated 12 shots — six on goal — led by senior Cassandra Roman (New London, Conn.), who posted a team-high six attempts, including four on frame. Sophomore Ava Iwasko (Sterling Heights, Mich.) and senior Taylor Bialowas (Griswold, Conn.) each added a shot on goal, while sophomore goalkeeper Ronnie Keays (Salem, N.H.) recorded nine saves across 90 minutes.
Saint Joseph opened the scoring early and never looked back, tallying three goals in each half. Alana Picard powered the Blue Jays' offense with a hat trick on nine shots (six on goal), while Elizabeth Garlock added a goal and an assist. Christina Quitoni and Garlock found the back of the net in the first half, with Samantha Sacco contributing an assist.
The Blue Jays held a 27–12 advantage in total shots and an 8–4 edge in corner kicks. USJ goalkeeper Erika Horne earned the shutout with six saves.
The Mariners (2–11, 0–11 GNAC) return to their home turf on Saturday, October 25, for a conference matchup against Simmons University at 1:30 p.m. The contest will also serve as Senior Day.
