NEW LONDON, Conn. – Bay Path University netted the game's only goal in the second half en route to a 1-0 victory over Mitchell College on Saturday afternoon in New England Collegiate Conference women's soccer action at Alumni Field.
Elena Helming scored in the 51st minute to supply the lone goal for the Wildcats, who improved to 7-5-1 overall (4-3-0 NECC). Caitlyn Esposito did her part in goal by making five saves in goal to preserve the shutout.
Bay Path jumped in front in the early stages of the second half after Rebekah Herring stole the ball off a Mitchell player in their own defensive midfield. She then dribbled to the end line at the far left side of the box before sending a cross to Helming at the far post. Helming finished off the pass for her eighth tally of the season and the 1-0 Bay Path lead.
Goalkeeper Jordan Lohneiss finished with seven saves against 18 shots to lead the Mariners.
Prior to the game, the Mariners honored seniors Tiana Edwards, Taylor Saja and Caitlin Marsh, who were all playing in the final home game of their careers.
Mitchell (1-10-1 overall, 0-6-1 NECC) wraps up regular season play at Wheelock College on Wednesday, October 25 at 7 p.m. Bay Path returns to action at home against Southern Vermont College on Wednesday at 3 p.m.
