Women's Soccer Ties NEC on Senior Day
NEW LONDON, Conn. -- The Mitchell College women's soccer team continued conference play on Saturday afternoon, battling New England College to a scoreless draw at Alumni Field.
Neither team managed to break through, with strong defense displayed throughout the game. Goalkeeper Gemma Landry kept the Mariners in the game, making 11 saves to continue her strong sophomore season in net. Saturday marked the fifth time this fall that the Mariners did not allow a goal.
The Mitchell defense had their hands full, however, turning back a plethora of attempts by the Pilgrims. NEC outshot the Mariners 20-6, yet the Mitchell defense did not break, making the Pilgrims work for every attempt. Elon Johnson attempted to put the Mariners ahead with a shot in the 84th minute, but it sailed high and to the left. Johnson led Mitchell with three shots, while Francesca Zamarripa, Taylor Bialowas, and Cassandra Roman all added shots. Stephanie Bronowicki made a pair of saves in goal for the visiting squad, who tallied their fifth tie of the season. Lauren Hobson led the Pilgrims with five shot attempts.
Prior to the game, four seniors from the Mitchell team were recognized; Lindsey Robinson, Madison Nicynski, Mariah Travisano, and Rachel Ricciuti.
