Women's Volleyball Drops Straight Sets to Eastern Connecticut
New London, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team came up short in a 3-0 loss to visiting Eastern Connecticut State University on Friday afternoon in a non-conference clash at the Yarnall Athletic Center. Set scores were 25-17, 25-16, and 25-23.
Sophomore Genna Hyde (Cypress, TX) led the Mariners with 10 kills and 10 digs, while fellow sophomore Molly Wordell (East Haddam, Conn.) added 9 kills on an efficient .308 hitting percentage. Freshman Cimber Jenkins (New Smyrna Beach, Fla.) chipped in with 4 kills, and junior setter Kiersten Veenstra (Three Rivers, Mich.) recorded 15 assists, along with a service ace and 4 digs. Defensively, senior Julia Lent (Miller Place, N.Y.) and Hyde each posted 10 digs.
As a team, Mitchell hit .103 for the match, with its most efficient set coming in the second (.238).
Eastern Connecticut was led by Allegra Copeland, who notched 12 kills and hit .375. Haley Jo Bridges added 8 kills and hit .545, while Sierra York also tallied 8 kills. Setter Ariah Davis paced the offense with 21 assists, and Brooke Praskievicz contributed 3 aces and 11 digs. The Warriors hit .303 overall and held a 6-0 advantage in team blocks.
Mitchell will look to bounce back as they return to Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play with a match at Emmanuel College on October 16 at 7 p.m.
