Volleyball Starts Strong but Falls 3-1 at Saint Joseph
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – Tiffany Mapusaga had 15 kills and 14 digs as the University of Saint Joseph volleyball team defeated Mitchell College in four sets in a non-conference match Wednesday at the O'Connell Center.
Mitchell won the first set 25-23 before USJ earned the next three by finals of 25-17, 25-14 and 25-23. USJ is 3-3 overall in the season while Mitchell dropped to 1-3.
Sarah Lipinski had nine kills and 20 digs for the Blue Jays and Carly Rusbasen served up six of USJ's 12 aces. Emily Vigue and Hannah Lemek each had seven kills for USJ and Myranda Williams dished out 33 assists and added 15 digs.
Senior Amanda Garcia had a team-high 10 kills for Mitchell and junior Amanda Rowan added seven. Senior Kaisea Caramante had a match-high 22 digs for the Mariners and classmate Nicole Caminiti recorded 22 assists and 16 digs.
Garcia had five kills in the first set to stake Mitchell to the early lead. Then the Blue Jays got a balanced effort as Vigue had four kills in the second set, Lemek four in the third and Mapusaga four in the clincher.
Mitchell will next play at Albertus Magnus College on Saturday, September 19 at noon.
