
Mariners Induct 19 New Members into Chi Alpha Sigma
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College Athletic Department recently inducted 19 new members into Chi Alpha Sigma.
Chi Alpha Sigma is the first national scholar-athlete society to honor those collegiate student-athletes who have excelled in both the classroom and in athletic competition. Chi Alpha Sigma recognizes college students who receive a Varsity letter in their sport while maintaining a 3.4 or higher cumulative GPA throughout their junior and/or senior years.
The governing board represents all levels of competition in the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) and the National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA).
Joining the ranks for Mitchell were Taylor Bialowas (women's soccer), Jenna Blakenship (women's volleyball), Olivia DeCicco (softball), Ransley Ferreras (baseball), Adam Gardner (men's basketball), Katelynn Goodman (softball), Christina Housley (softball), Chelsea Jackson (women's lacrosse), Sarah Latch (women's lacrosse), Luca Laurence (baseball), Julia Lent (women's volleyball), Timothy O'Hayre (men's cross country), Aliannys Ortiz (women's volleyball), Savier Paige (baseball), Cassandra Roman (women's soccer/softball), Thai-ler Sestokas (baseball), Arianna Stark (women's lacrosse), Micheal Thompson (men's golf), and Eddie Volkerts (men's basketball).
Mitchell is one of eight Chi Alpha Sigma chapters in Connecticut. The Mariners have inducted a total of 184 student-athletes since 2008 (see full list).
Three students were also inducted into Phi Epsilon Kappa, which is a national professional fraternity for persons engaged or pursuing careers in health, physical education, recreation, or safety. Joining the ranks were Paige Broadbent, Adam Gardner, Cassandra Roman, Thai-ler Sestokas, and Brooke Whitmarsh.
