Women’s Lacrosse Defeated by Lasers
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team came out on the wrong side of a 24-3 decision against Lasell University on Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) showdown at Alumni Field.
Junior Lauren Cordero (Selden, N.Y.) led the Mariners with two goals on the day. Cordero added six draw controls to surpass 100 in her career, while also scooping up a pair of ground balls. Sophomore Chloe Jennings (New London, Conn.) potted the lone other Mitchell goal, her 19th of the spring, while also finishing with three ground balls, three draw controls, and one assist.
The Lasers opened the game with 13 unanswered goals until a free position goal by Cordero got Mitchell on the board with 3:08 remaining in the first half. The Mariners then added back to back goals towards the end of the third quarter, as Jennings potted a free position shot and Cordero took a behind the net pass from Chloe Jennings and sent it flying past the Lasell keeper.
Kaitlin Bedell scored five goals and assisted on another for the Lasers, who had 10 players register at least one goal. Joy Sayah was the winning goalie, playing the entire first half without recording a save.
Junior Arrianna Stark (Scotia-Glenville, N.Y.) played all but 11 minutes in goal for the Mariners and turned away seven shots.
The Lasers outshot the Mariners 42-11, held a 20-10 advantage in draw controls, and forced 16 Mitchell turnovers.
