
Volleyball Defeated 3-0 at Lasell
NEWTON, Mass. – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team dropped a straight set match on the road against Lasell University on Wednesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Lasell Athletic Center. The Lasers won by set scores of 25-7, 25-18, and 25-10, moving their record to 9-0 this fall in league play.
Senior Allison Blum (Garden Grove, Cali.) and freshman Molly Wordell (East Haddam, Conn.) each recorded a team-high five kills for the Mariners, while Blum added seven digs. Junior Julia Lent (Miller Place, N.Y.) racked up 13 defensive digs and sophomore Kiersten Veenstra (Three Rivers, Mich.) returned from injury to hand out 12 assists.
The second set proved to be the most competitive for the Mariners, as they trailed 9-8 early on after an Allison Blum kill and shortly after 11-10 on a kill by Emily Rizzo (Bethel, Conn.). Three straight points followed for the Lasers who began to pull ahead, eventually taking the set by seven.
Camila Lopez tallied a match-high nine kills for Lasell, who had 12 players record at least one kill. Madeline Caro finished with 15 digs and Sydney Katz dished out 24 assists in the win, both also match-high figures.
The Mariners (6-14, 2-7 GNAC) will return home for their next match on Saturday, October 26, when they host Norwich University at 4:00 pm. This clash will also serve as Senior Day for Mitchell. The Lasers
(20-4, 9-0 GNAC) will attempt to stay unbeaten in conference play when they play at the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Friday, October 25.
