Volleyball Cruises Past Bay Path
EAST LONGMEADOW, Mass. -- The Mitchell College women's volleyball team picked up a 3-0 victory over Bay Path University in commanding fashion on Tuesday night at First Baptist Gym.
The Mariners cruised to their fifth victory of the season in just 68 minutes, winning by set scores of 25-11, 25-10 and 25-18. Mitchell hit .233 as a squad and finished with 15 service aces, its second highest total of the season.
Olivia DeLoach led the attack with a match-high 11 kills to go with 10 digs. Molly Steel-Miller chipped in seven kills, Brianna McDermott supplied a match-high 16 digs, and Claire Binfield handed out 26 assists.
After DeLoach opened the match with a kill, Binfield served the Mariners out to a 7-0 start that included a pair of aces. Things only got worse for the hosts as Mitchell pumped the lead to 14-2 en route to a 1-0 lead in the match.
The second set was tighter, as Bay Path kept within striking distance until an 11-3 run boosted the Mariners to a 21-9 lead. Megan Pardee served out the final three points of the set as Mitchell went up 2-0.
Bay Path took its first lead of the night in the third, pulling ahead briefly at 11-10. A kill by DeLoach and an ace from Steel-Miller put Mitchell on top for good, and the visitors later stretched the lead to 18-12 courtesy of back-to-back aces by Binfield.
Mitchell (5-13 overall) will next host Lesley University on Saturday, October 23 at 11:00 a.m.
