Volleyball Tops Curry in Four Sets
MILTON, Mass. – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team played four closely-contested sets and came away with a 3-1 victory at Curry College on Tuesday evening.
Mitchell won by set scores of 25-23, 22-25, 27-25 and 25-20 to improve to 5-2 overall on the season. The Colonels dropped to 2-9 overall.
Every set was a see-saw affair, with neither team opening a lead larger than eight points. After Mitchell squeaked out the opening set by two, Curry evened the match with a three-point victory in the second set. The Mariners captured another two-point win in the third set before putting the match away in the fourth by five points – the largest margin of the night.
The Mariners ttriumphed behind strong defense and a collective effort on the offensive side, with nine players recording a kill on the night. Senior Bianca Young led Mitchell with a team-high six kills while freshman Nicole Terni had a match-high 27 digs. Senior Marie Connelly dished out a match-high 20 assists and added three kills, and classmate Brittany Zaccaria and freshman Emily Stracuzzi each added double-digit digs with 12 and 10, respectively.
As a team, the Colonels collected a season-high 31 kills. Curry was led by Courtney DiBiaso with a match-high 13 kills. She also contributed three service aces and 12 digs. Tyla Miller recorded a team-high 18 digs while Michelle Theroux dished out a team-best 13 assists to go along with nine digs.
