Volleyball Falls to Rams in Straight Sets
FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback on the road on Thursday night, dropping a straight set match to Framingham State University in non-conference action at Logan Gymnasium.
The Mariners lost by set scored of 25-20, 25-14, and 25-21.
Freshman Genna Hyde (Cyprus, TX) led the Mariners with 13 kills while adding nine digs. Reigning Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) Libero of the Week, Julia Lent, continued her strong play, recording 27 digs, averaging nine digs per set, and sophomore Kiersten Veenstra (Three Rivers, Mich.) tallied a double-double with 23 assists and 12 digs. Senior Allison Blum (Garden Grove, Cali.) added nine kills and six digs for Mitchell in the loss.
Natalie Reynolds paced the Rams with 17 kills on her 29 attempts with no errors for a .586 attack percentage. Jamiee Lowe and Sabrina Stadelman chipped in with seven kills apiece, while Madysen Cedrone added six kills, five assists and 10 defensive digs. Lowe also added eight defensive digs in the match. Stella Bailey chipped in 24 set assists to go along with five digs, while Anneli DiVirgilio finished the night with two aces and a team-best 13 defensive digs to go along with three assists.
The Mariners (3-3, 0-0 GNAC) will open up GNAC play on Saturday, September 14, when they host Rivier University at 1:00 pm in the Yarnall Athletic Center. The Rams (2-3, 0-0 MASCAC) return to action on Saturday, September 14, with a tri-match against Mount Holyoke and Husson.
