NEW HAVEN, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team was unable to gain any offensive traction on the road Wednesday night, falling to Albertus Magnus College 3-0 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match at Celentano Field.
Junior Ejalam Bravo scored her first two goals of the season for the Falcons, while senior Erina Ismaili added a goal, and junior Tyler Stocking handed out a pair of assists in the win. All three goals came in the second half after the two squads played to a scoreless draw over the first 60 minutes of the match.
Bravo made it one goal game in the 61st minute, before Ismaili made it 2-0 three minutes later off an assist by Stocking. Bravo scored the third goal of the game on a penalty kick in the 78th minute for the final tally of the game.
The Falcons pressured the Mariners from the jump, getting off 20 shots in the first half and 34 shots altogether, with 20 of those coming on goal.
Mitchell senior Gemma Landry (Lewiston, ME) turned away 17 shots for the second consecutive game to begin the season and now ranks fifth in the conference in saves with 34. Albertus goalkeeper Amy Stevens improved to 3-0-1, logging all 90 minutes in the net without the need to make a save.
The Mariners (0-2, 0-2 GNAC) will look to right the ship on Saturday, September 14, when they host Rivier University in a GNAC showdown beginning at 12:00 pm. The Falcons (3-0-1, 2-0 GNAC) return to conference play on Saturday, September 14, when they travel to face Colby-Sawyer College.
