Cross Country Races in Blazer Invitational
CHICOPEE, Mass. – The Mitchell men's and women's cross-country teams returned to action on Saturday morning, competing in the Blazer Invitational, hosted by Elms College at Chicopee State Park.
In the men's 8k race, sophomore Jonathan Hecker (Falls Church, VA) paced the Mariners, finishing 21st overall with a time of 37:08.94. Freshman Stefan Mier (Providence, R.I.) was the next to cross the finish line for Mitchell with a time of 41:16.31, while junior Tim O'Hayre was 38th overall at 43:15.08.
Matt Provost of Western New England was the top male finisher with a time of 28:33.12, while the Golden Bears took the top team spot, edging out second place finisher Emmanuel College.
On the women's side, freshman Jordyn Sreitmatter (Brewster, Mass.) was the leader of the Mitchell pack, crossing the finish line of their 6k race in 35:16.23, good for 29th place. Sophomore Madison Cole (Westbrook, ME) was not far behind, racing to a 37th place finish with a time of 41:30.72, while Jade Hypolite (Houston, TX), N'Tai Teague (Richmond, TX), and Anna Kate Kochansky (Bronxville, N.Y.) rounded out the Mariners with times of 53:40.21, 55:31.21, and 1:01:55.04 respectively.
Ella Meeker of Lasell University was the top female finisher with a time of 25:10.23, while Emmanuel College claimed the top team spot. Mitchell as a team was sixth out of six teams.
The Mariners will run again on Saturday, September 21, when they compete in the UMass Dartmouth Invitational.
