XC Opens Season at Trinity Invitational

MANCHESTER, Conn. - The Mitchell College men's and women's cross country teams opened the 2012 season at the Trinity College Bantam Invitational on Saturday at Wickham Park.
The men's team finished 12th out of 12 teams while the women's squad finished eighth out of eight teams. American International took the team title on the men's side while the University of Hartford topped the women's squads.
Junior Drew Castagna led the Mariners in the men's 5k race with a time of 20:04 and finished 68th overall. Freshman Milton Williams ran well in his collegiate debut and finished 85th with a time of 21:30. Sophomore Michael Edwards (21:56), senior Zach Hoch (22:02) and sophomore Adam Oshrain (22:17) rounded out the top five for Mitchell.
Freshman Sheilah Newcity paced the Mariners with a time of 20:14 in the women's 4k race, good enough for a 50th place finish. Junior Katie Buchanan clocked in at 21:01 and in 60th place, and sophomore Bridget Burns (22:35), sophomore Tierney Caulfield (26:10) and freshman Ally Blanchette (27:47) rounded out the top five for the Mariners.
The Mariners will next host the Mitchell Invitational on Friday, September 14 at Stenger Farm Park.
