XC Races at Conn College Invitational
WATERFORD, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's and women's cross country teams raced at the Conn College Invitational on Saturday morning at Harkness Memorial State Park.
The University of Connecticut won the men's event while Tufts University topped the women's field. UConn's Ryan McGuire (24:53) led all runners in the men's 8k race while Bridgewater State University's Molly Rouillard (21:44) won the women's 6k race.
Mitchell finished 21st out of the 22 teams on the men's side. Junior Drew Castagna finished 125th overall with a season-best time of 29:22 while freshman Spencer Daniel placed 131st at 30:28. Senior Zachary Hoch (31:30), sophomore Michael Edwards (31:52) and freshman Andrew Hay (32:41) rounded out the top five finishers for the Mariners.
The Mitchell women placed 20th and were led by freshman Sheilah Newcity, who finished 117th overall in a time of 27:48. Sophomore Bridget Burns also posted a strong time of 28:16 to place 122nd overall. Katie Buchanan (28:48), Breanna Poirier (30:54) and Tierney Caulfield (31:52) also clocked in for the Mariners, who were running in their longest race of the season.
The Mariners will have a week off before running again at the 2012 NECC Championship, which will be held on October 27 at Harkness Memorial State Park.
