XC Runs at Post, Hoffman Takes First in Men's Race

WATERBURY, Conn. - The Mitchell College men's and women's cross
country teams ran against three other teams at an event hosted by
Post University on Wednesday afternoon. The men's team finished
second while the women's squad placed fourth.
Junior John Hoffman won his second race of the season by posting a
time of 28:16 over the 8k course. He finished a full 10 seconds
ahead of Bridgeport's Brian Bor-the only other competitor in the
race to break the 29-minute mark-and bested his season-best time by
16 seconds.
Nearly every Mitchell runner on the men's side posted a season-best
time. Senior Eric Appleby finished fifth overall, clocking in
at 30:06 and lowering his season-best time by 24 seconds. Vernon
Wilson (10th, 33:52), Zach Hoch (12th, 35:12), Brian Ziminsky
(20th, 38:36), Michael Brennan (23rd, 39:54) and Joshua Charles
(24th, 40:04) rounded out the finishers for the Mariners.
On the women's side, junior Brittany Smyth crossed the line first
for the Mariners. She finished seventh overall with a time of
22:33, trimming 34 seconds off her season-best mark.
Three other members of the women's squad also posted their fastest
times of the year-Monica Gonzalez (22nd, 31:31), Elena Halloran
(23rd, 31:41) and Katherine Jeon (25th, 35:19).
Both the men's and women's cross country teams will next compete at
Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday, October 7.
