
Wildcats Race Past Women’s Basketball
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Freshman N'Tai Teague (Houston, TX) recorded her second collegiate double-double on Saturday afternoon, finishing with 18 points and 15 rebounds, yet the Mitchell College women's basketball team suffered a 90-58 defeat at the hands of Johnson & Wales University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at the Yarnall Athletic Center.
The 18 points and 15 rebounds were both career high figures for Teague, who also added five blocks, one assist, and one steal. Fellow freshman Jade Hypolite (Houston, TX) added 16 points, four assists, and three rebounds for Mitchell, while junior Jamya Beddoe (New London, Conn.) chipped in nine points.
The Mariners hung tight with the one-loss Wildcats during the opening quarter, and trailed by just five points after the first 10 minutes of play. JWU then pulled away with a commanding second stanza in which they outscored the Mariners 22-8. Grace Jaffray led all scorers with 27 points on 11-20 shooting. Jaffray capped her double-double by pulling down 12 rebounds, while Brianne Foley netted 22 points for the Wildcats.
JWU got off 92 shots during the game and shot at a 38% clip from the floor. The Mariners were just 21-65 shooting, including a 5-22 mark from downtown, and were outrebounded 54-41.
The Mariners (2-6, 0-2 GNAC) continue conference play when they play at Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday, January 15, at 5:30 pm. The Wildcats (12-1, 3-0 GNAC) will look to stay unbeaten in GNAC play when they travel to face Saint Joseph's College (ME) on Wednesday, January 15.
