
WBB Finds Stride at Wheelock
CHESTNUT HILL, MA – Junior forward Kate Mulloy led four players in double figures with 17 points as the Mitchell College women's basketball team posted a 72-51 win over host Wheelock College on Tuesday night in a New England Collegiate Conference contest at Brunelli Court.

The Mariners scored the first six points of the night and never trailed in the contest. They took a 10-5 lead following a jumper from freshman Diamond Thomas at the 14:54 mark, but four straight points from the Wildcats' Keneisha Milton cut the deficit to 10-9 with 13:12 to play in the period. It would be as close as the home team would get for the remainder of the contest.
Mitchell reeled off eight unanswered points to take an 18-9 bulge with 9:52 to go in the half. A lay-up from senior Kaylee Cerruto later gave the visitors a 27-14 advantage with five minutes left, but Wheelock pulled within 29-22 with 3:33 showing on the first half clock. The Mariners took a 34-27 lead into the intermission.
Milton converted one of two free throws just over three minutes into the second stanza to cut the deficit to 36-30 for the Wildcats. Mitchell answered with a 15-6 run, led by a pair of three-pointers from senior guard Suzie Barbosa, to increase its lead to 51-36 with 13:14 to play in the contest.
Jessica Ramsey gave Wheelock some life with a trifecta to make it 51-39 with 12:11 remaining in the game, but a 19-7 stretch, fueled by six points from Mulloy, gave the Mariners a 70-46 cushion at the 4:13 mark of the second half.
Mulloy also pulled down six rebounds and blocked a shot for Mitchell, while freshman Amanda Garcia netted 16 points, grabbed seven boards, made two steals and dished for an assist. Thomas finished with 15 points on 7-for-8 shooing and added six rebounds and three steals. Cerruto chipped in with 10 points, a rebound, two assists and a steal.
Ramsey led the Wildcats with a game-high 20 points and four steals to go with seven rebounds, while Randi Davis dropped in 11 points, pulled down nine rebounds and came up with a steal. Milton contributed with nine points, four rebounds and four steals.
Mitchell will look to make it two in a row when it hosts Lesley University on Thursday, January 17 at 4 p.m.
