NASHUA, N.H. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team dropped a 67-42 decision at Daniel Webster College on Saturday afternoon at Mario Vagge Gymnasium.
Daniel Webster's Ashley Giampetruzzi notched a game-high 20 points and added eight rebounds while Vanessa Bosques finished with 16 points on four three-pointers and pulled down six rebounds. Ashley England contributed with 13 points, six rebounds and four assists as the Eagles (5-10, 5-3 NECC) snapped a two-game slide. Emily Travis chipped in with seven points while Natalie Nagle pulled in seven rebounds off the bench.
Freshman Savannah Boyle paced the Mariners (3-11, 3-5 NECC) with season highs of 13 points and nine boards off the bench while classmate Diamond Thomas had eight points. Rookie Dazjavia Williams chipped in with nine caroms.
DWC trailed only twice in the first half and was helped as Mitchell connected on just five second half field goals. The Eagles turned an eight-point lead at the break into as many as a 18 over the first 10 minutes of the frame.
The Eagles shot 36 percent on the afternoon, racked up 14 steals, and were aided by 22 Mitchell turnovers leading to 21 points. The margin helped negate the Mariners' 49-44 advantage on the boards.
DWC built an early 19-10 edge in the first on an England trey, but Mitchell chipped away and whittled the lead to three (21-18) on a Boyle jumper. The Mariners later took their only lead (24-23) on a Suzie Barbosa three with 6:10 left.
Another Barbosa jumper with 3:50 to go made it a 28-27 Mitchell advantage, but Travis sank two at the line and Giampetruzzi followed inside sparking a 9-2 run to close the half. A Bosques three gave the Eagles a 38-30 edge at the break.
The Eagles opened with the first six points of the second half and limited Mitchell to four points over a span of 15:25 as the lead ballooned to 27 on an England lay-up with 4:48 left. A Kaylea Parkin lay-up at the 3:10 mark produced the largest margin of 28 (66-38).
