CAMBRIDGE, Mass. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team extended its winning streak to five games on Sunday with a 74-40 victory at Lesley University in New England Collegiate Conference action.
Mitchell improved to 10-13 overall and 10-3 in league play. Jessica Shepherd led four Mariners in double figures with 17 points while Alexandra Kolb and Ashleigh Beauford netted 12 and 11, respectively. Allegra Jones came off the bench to tally 11 points in 16 minutes.
Mitchell came out of the gate strong as Kolb capped off a 7-2 run to open the contest with a lay-up in the paint midway through the first quarter. The Mariners led 16-12 after the first quarter but pulled away in the second, outscoring the Lynx 16-7. Beauford and Jones each contributed five points in the stanza, and Mitchell took a 32-19 lead into the locker room at the break.
Mitchell didn't let up in the second half. Kolb and Shepherd combined to score 15 of their team's 25 points in the third as the Mariners outscored the Lynx by 14 and took a 57-36 edge into the final period. The fourth quarter was more of the same as Mitchell cemented the victory behind a 17-10 scoring margin.
Theresa Pereira paced Lesley (7-16, 5-11 NECC) with 21 points in a reserve role.
Mitchell will next host Newbury College on Tuesday, February 14 at 7:00 p.m.
