
Women’s Basketball Concludes Season with Road Loss to Norwich
NORTHFIELD, VT – The Mitchell College women's basketball team saw their season come to an end on the road Saturday afternoon, losing 85-35 to Norwich University in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game at Andrews Hall.
Junior Jamya Beddoe (New London, Conn.) scored 13 points to lead three Mitchell players to score in double-figures. Freshman Jordyn Streitmatter (Brewster, Mass.) chipped in 12 points, while senior Kyrsten Lucas (Manchester, MD) finished with 11 points and six rebounds in her final game in a Mariners uniform. Freshman Jade Hypolite (Houston, TX) added five points, 10 rebounds, and five assists in the loss.
The Mariners came out of the gate hot and held a 15-13 lead after the first quarter, with Lucas scoring five points in the frame. Things began to go south from there, as Norwich outscored Mitchell 30-11 in the second stanza, including a 14-0 run, and led by 17 at half. The Mariners were unable to recover, and Norwich used a 44.2% shooting day to grow their lead to as large as 33 points in the waning minutes of the fourth quarter.
Haley Brewster erupted for 35 points and eight rebounds to pace the Cadets, while Kiley O'Brien had 21 points and five rebounds in the win. Norwich also won the rebounding battle, 45-39, outscored the Mariners in the paint, 34-14, and forced 19 Mitchell turnovers.
The Mariners finish their season with an overall record of 2-18 (0-14 GNAC). The Cadets conclude their season with a 10-14 record, including a 4-10 mark in conference play.
