NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team suffered a 72-40 defeat at the hands of Saint Joseph's College (ME) on Saturday afternoon in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) game at the Yarnall Athletic Center.
Prior to the game, the Mariners celebrated Senior Day and honored their lone senior, Kyrsten Lucas (Manchester, MD).
Freshmen Jordyn Streitmatter (Brewster, Mass.) and N'Tai Teague (Houston, TX) scored 11 points apiece to lead the Mariners. Streitmatter added five rebounds and a pair of assists, while Teague also pulled down five boards. Junior Jamya Beddoe (New London, Conn.) chipped in 10 points for Mitchell, who shot just 25% from the floor and were outrebounded 46-24.
Angelica Hurley paced the Monks with 19 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and a steal. Logan Brown netted 17 points off the bench in the win, as SJC won their third straight and improved to 10-2 in conference play.
The Mariners (2-16, 0-12 GNAC) return to the court on Tuesday, February 18, when they host Rivier University. The Monks (17-6, 10-2 GNAC) play next on Tuesday, February 18, when they have a home game against Norwich University.
