
Camels Surge Past Women’s Basketball
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team was defeated by a final score of 95-47 against Connecticut College in non-conference action on Friday night at Luce Field House.
Freshman Jordyn Streitmatter (Brewster, Mass.) poured in 12 points off the bench to lead the Mariners, who scored on the opening possession before Conn ripped off a 17-0 run to immediately seize control. The Camels led 24-8 after the first quarter and kept the pressure on in the second, taking a 48-20 lead into the locker room at the break. Mitchell freshman N'Tai Teague (Houston, TX) just missed out on her first collegiate double-double, finishing with 10 points and eight rebounds, while fellow freshman Jade Hypolite (Houston, TX) collected seven points, four steals, three rebounds, and two assists.
Mia Xerras netted a game-high 19 points—all in the first half—and shot 7-for-8 from the floor, including 5-for-6 from beyond the arc to lead Conn, who were playing their first game of the season. Addi Hunter chipped in 12 points and six rebounds in the win. Conn outrebounded the Mariners 49-29, while Mitchell committed 20 turnovers to just 11 for the Camels.
The Mariners (0-2, 0-2 GNAC) will look for their first win of the season when they return to action on Saturday, November 23, at Mount Holyoke. The Camels (1-0, 0-0 NESCAC) will next host the University of Hartford on Saturday, November 16 at 1:00 p.m.
