
Blue Jays Fly Past Women’s Basketball
WEST HARTFORD, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's basketball team suffered a 77-38 defeat at the hands of the University of Saint Joseph (Conn.) on Wednesday evening in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action inside the James A. Calhoun Gymnasium.
Freshman forward N'Tai Teague (Houston, TX) scored a team-high 10 points for Mitchell and finished one rebound shy of a double-double, while also adding two steals and a block. Freshman guard Jordyn Streitmatter (Brewster, Mass.) chipped in nine points and five rebounds off the bench for Mitchell.
The Blue Jays opened the game on a 16-0 run and never looked back, leading wire to wire. The Mariners managed just one basket in the first quarter and trailed 41-12 when the teams took to the locker room.
USJ had the hot hand on offense, shooting 57.1% from the floor and 50% from downtown, while outrebounding the Mariners 45-29. The bench of the Blue Jays also outscored Mitchell's 36-13.
Jordan Ouellette led all scorers with 20 points, and pulled down eight rebounds. Taylor Verboven netted 10 points, four assists, three rebounds, and three steals for USJ, who collected their second win in a row.
The Mariners (2-11, 0-7 GNAC) return home for their next game, a GNAC battle against Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday, February 1, at 1:00 pm. The Blue Jays (12-6, 7-1 GNAC) play next on Sunday, February 2, when they face Williams College in a non-conference game,
