NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team wrapped up their season on Monday afternoon by falling to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) by a 9-6 final in non-conference action.
Senior Weston Schumacher (Sherborn, Mass.) and junior John Parra-Tobey (New London, Conn.) scored two goals apiece for the Mariners, while sophomore Xavier Haney (Montville, Conn.) and sophomore Joseph Hayes (Stonington, Conn.) each also found the back of the net. Schumacher added an assist, as did Haney, and junior Keeano Gonzalez (New London, Conn.) scooped up a game-high 13 ground balls going 13-19 from the face off position. Senior CJ Bradley (West Babylon, N.Y.) was credited with seven ground balls for Mitchell.
Parra-Tobey opened the scoring with a goal four and half minutes into play, but Boden Dock tallied two quick scores for MCLA to put the Trailblazers ahead 2-1 at the midway point of the first quarter. Haney scored for Mitchell with 6:27 on the clock, but a goal by MCLA's Josh Hemstock pushed the visitors ahead in the final moments of the frame, and they would lead the rest of the way.
The Mariners trailed 6-2 at halftime and 7-4 entering the third quarter, but came within one goal when Joseph Hayes sent one past the MCLA goalkeeper off an assist by Schumacher with 5:45 remaining in the game. MCLA answered with two final scores to close the action and seal the victory.
Luke Rhoss finished with a game-high six points, including a hat trick, while Boden Dock added three goals of his own, and Walter Brown handed out a pair of assists.
Senior Dylan Kinsella (Waterbury, Conn.) turned away 15 shots across 60 minutes for Mitchell, while Neal Brierley also made 15 saves for MCLA.
