LAX Can't Hold On at Regis
WESTON, Mass. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team returned to action on Monday following a 19-day layoff, falling 14-7 at Regis College in a non-conference showdown at Regis Stadium.
AJ Karofsky scored a game-high four goals and Brent Young added two goals and five assists to lead the Pride. The former NECC members outshot the Mariners 49-21 in the contest.
Nick Penta and JJ LaRose each played a half in net for the Pride (2-2 overall), who saw Mitchell score the game's first three goals. Kyle Marsh and Jack Dalton provided the offense for the Mariners (0-4 overall) in the first quarter. Marsh opened the game with an unassisted goal and assisted on the second of Dalton's first two goals for the 3-0 lead after one quarter.
The Pride didn't get on the scoreboard until Karofsky's score from Young with 11:21 remaining in the second quarter. That was the start of seven unanswered goals for Regis, three of which came before the halftime break to even the score by intermission. Young assisted on goals from Karofsky and Michael Daras with Danny Rancano evening the game with his goal midway through the period.
The Pride kept it rolling in the second half. Young assisted on a pair of goals in the third quarter with Karofsky scoring three of his four, the last with 1:07 to play, to maintain control of the game.
Marsh had a solid game for the Mariners, scoring a team-high three goals while scooping up nine ground balls. His goal with 8:23 remaining in the game kept his team within striking distance at 9-6, but a pair of assists each from Rancano and Karofsky, and a goal by Collin Spillane with 3:04 to play, sealed the win.
Dalton finished with two goals and three ground balls for Mitchell with Marcel Quinlan impressive (16 saves). Jesse McKeever and Reilly Steele also scored goals for the Mariners on the day.
Mitchell will next visit Nichols College on Wednesday, March 21 at 4 p.m.
