
LAX Clipped in OT at Becker
LEICESTER, Mass. -- The Becker College men's lacrosse team defeated Mitchell College, 8-7, in overtime Tuesday evening at Alumni Field.
The Hawks (4-10 overall, 2-1 NECC) got the scoring started 4:17 into the first quarter when Daniel Johnson found Jack Schneider for the 1-0 lead. Becker extended its lead to 2-0 on Blake Boutiette's first of six goals on the evening.
Kyle Marsh put the Mariners on the board when he gathered a loose ball in front, scoring with a second left in the first quarter. Mitchell (2-8 overall, 1-2 NECC) then took the lead when Jacob Setzko tallied back-to-back goals to open the second quarter.
Boutiette tied the game with 28 seconds remaining in the first half on a pass from Bryan Parsons, knotting the game at 3-3. Just 20 seconds later, Boutiette gave the Hawks the lead when he scored on a nifty behind-the-back shot, sending them into halftime with a 4-3 advantage.
The Mariners responded 38 seconds into the third quarter when Brian Jordan found Marsh off the opening faceoff, tying the game at 4-4.
Becker broke the 4-4 tie on Boutiette's fourth goal of the game with 11:32 left in the third.
The back-and-forth game continued as Mitchell's Jackson Brockwell fed Adam Liudzius for the equalizer at the 9:02 mark of the third.
Becker had the final tally of the third quarter when Joseph Linnehan tickled the twine to give the Hawks a 6-5 lead. The Hawks then upped their lead to 7-5 on Boutiette's fifth marker of the game just 31 seconds into the fourth.
Setzko pulled the Mariners back within a goal when he completed his hat trick with 13:21 remaining in regulation. With the Hawks clinging to a 7-6 lead with 2:24 on the clock, Jordan scored on a man-advantage opportunity to send the game into overtime.
The Mariners got themselves into trouble with 1:30 remaining in the first overtime when they picked up a pair of penalties to give the Hawks a two-man advantage. Boutiette ended the game with a minute left on the clock when Daniel Johnson found him at the doorstep of the Mitchell goal for the game winner.
Becker goalie Trey McMillen improved his record to 4-4 on the year after making 11 saves. JD LeMay suffered the loss after making nine stops in net for the Mariners.
Both teams conclude the regular season on Saturday, April 22. Mitchell will host Regis College at 1:00 p.m. while Becker travels to Daniel Webster College for a 3:00 p.m.
