LAX Falls to UMass Boston
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men’s lacrosse
team dropped an 18-3 decision to the University of Massachusetts
Boston on Wednesday afternoon.
Pat Driscoll led UMass Boston with six goals and an assist while
John Canty added five goals and an assist. The Beacons (4-6
overall) held a 44-28 advantage in shots and a 47-33 edge in ground
balls. Anthony Fitti finished with 13 saves in goal to secure the
victory.

Grillo, Joseph Rice and John
Kearney each scored goals for Mitchell while Patrick
Nielsen added an assist. The Mariners dropped to 1-6 overall on
the season.
The Beacons never trailed in the contest and led 7-0 after the
first 15 minutes of play. Canty netted three goals in the opening
quarter to pace the attack.
UMass Boston led 9-0 before Mitchell got on the board midway
through the second quarter. The Mariners scored with a
man-advantage when Grillo found the back of the net on a pass by
Nielsen. A goal from Kearney closed out the first half scoring, and
the Beacons took an 11-2 lead into the break. Driscoll scored four
goals in the half to lead all scorers.
UMass Boston scored the first five goals of the second half to take
a 16-2 lead with 7:03 remaining in the contest. Rice scored
Mitchell’s final goal with 4:02 to play, and Driscoll and
Canty added scores in the final minutes to close out the
scoring.
Five players finished with multiple goals for the Beacons. Dale
Nunn had a hat trick while Aaron Pollock and Al Craven netted two
apiece.
Joseph Nott and Gregg
Jameson each saw action in goal for the Mariners. Nott played
the first three quarters and finished with nine saves while Jameson
made one stop in the final 15 minutes.
UMass Boston will next play at Western Connecticut State University
on Saturday, April 17 at 1 p.m. Mitchell also returns to action on
Saturday at Daniel Webster College at 1 p.m.
