
LAX Falls at WCSU
DANBURY, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team dropped a 17-3 decision at Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday night in non-conference action at The Westside Athletic Complex.
WCSU's Eric Caldwell tallied a game-high seven goals and dished out a pair of assists while Robert Swensen chipped in with five goals. The Colonials outshot the Mariners (38-17) while scooping up a commanding edge in the ground ball column (27-8). Ryan Yursha went 14-for-16 in face-offs as the Colonials held a 17-7 advantage in the department. Goalkeepers Patrick Tynan and Zach Craybas combined to record two saves.
JD LeMay finished with 11 saves for the Mariners (1-5 overall). Jacob Setzko, Brian Jordan and Matt Sauchuk each recorded goals on the night for the visitors.
The Colonials jumped out to a 5-1 lead in the opening quarter. Mitchell's only score of the stanza came when Jordan netted his first of the year to cut a 2-0 deficit in half. However, WCSU went on to score the next seven goals to break the game open.
A tally by Setzko made it 9-2 in the second quarter, although the Colonials ended the half with three straight scores to lead 12-2 at the break. Mitchell's final goal of the night came in the game's final minute from Sauchuk.
The Mariners went 3-for-5 with the extra man in the contest.
Mitchell will next host Coast Guard on Tuesday, April 4 at 4 p.m.
