Men's LAX Falls to Saint Joseph
NEW LONDON, Conn. – Mitchell College dropped a 21-5 decision to the University of Saint Joseph on Sunday afternoon in a non-conference men's lacrosse showdown.
A total of 11 Blue Jays found the back of the goal in the contest, which saw the visitors dominate in both shots (51-20) and face-off wins (22-7). Noah Mocksfield led the way with five goals while Anthony Lupo added four, and Ryan Paltauf finished with two tallies and a game-high five assists.
Aidan Messuri and Dominick Reposa paced Mitchell with a pair of goals. Weston Schumacher notched first his marker of the season and also recorded an assist.
The Mariners got on the scoreboard first thanks to Reposa's first goal, which came off a feed from Ethan LePain less than three minutes into the contest. However, the rest of the quarter belonged to the Blue Jays, who scored six times in the final 12:19 of the period. Paltauf netted both of his goals during the stretch, including a man-down tally off a long pass from goalie Trey McCann.
Leading 6-1 after one, Saint Joseph doubled the margin in the second quarter as six different players added to the advantage. The final goal of the half by Evan Zimnoch gave the Blue Jays a 12-2 lead at the break.
Saint Joseph outscored Mitchell 7-0 in the third period to put the game away. Mocksfield, who had two goals at intermission, added his final three in the quarter while Lupo chipped in a pair.
McCann picked up the win in goal and made four saves in just over 35 minutes of action. Mitchell goalies Steven Turchetta and John Grieco each played a half and finished with six and four saves, respectively.
Mitchell (1-2 overall) will next host Sage College on Friday, March 4 at 3 p.m.
