NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team pulled out a 13-12 overtime victory over Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday night at Celentano Field.
Jade Shields netted the game-winning goal just 36 seconds into the extra period, sending his teammates into a frenzy. After Jadyn Gonzalez won the ever-important face-off to start OT, Shields ended up with the ball at the restraining line and started backing into his defender. A quick spin to the left yielded a clear path to the goal, and Shields stuck his shot inside the far post for the winner.
The Mariners, who never led at any point in regulation, trailed 12-10 in the fourth quarter before rallying back. Joe Schley scored twice in the final 10:08, the first coming off a feed from Ethan LePain while Mitchell had a man advantage. Schley later potted the game-tying goal with 2:29 to go off an assist from Gonzalez.
Schley led the Mariners with five goals while Shields and Dominick Reposa each recorded hat tricks. Shields also handed out a pair of assists. Marcel Quinlan turned in a strong performance in the cage, finishing with 19 saves against 31 shots on goal.
Mitchell (2-3 overall) will next play at New England College on Saturday, April 17 at 1 p.m.
