Johnson & Wales Silences MLAX
PROVIDENCE, R.I. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team was shutout on Tuesday afternoon 15-0 against Johnson & Wales University in a non-conference road clash at Scotts Miracle-Gro Athletic Complex.
Nine different players scored for the Wildcats, who improved their record to 9-1 on the spring. Hayden Haldane and Alex Padula each collected hat tricks for JWU, while Brent Rickett tallied two goals and three assists and Joe McIntyre potted two goals and dished two assists.
The Mariners struggled to gain much offensive traction, finishing with just nine shots on the day, as compared to 50 for the home squad. The Wildcats also controlled many other aspects of the game, winning 13 of 19 face off attempts and forcing 31 Mitchell turnovers. The Mariners also lost the ground ball battle 50-23, yet they were able to convert 19-28 clear attempts.
Weston Schumacher (Sherborn, Mass.), Keeano Gonzalez (New London, Conn.), and Jon Parra-Tobey (New London, Conn.) each finished with two shots on goal for the visitors, while Gonzalez, Schumacher, and Ian Falconi (Littleton, Mass.) were credited with four ground balls apiece to lead Mitchell.
Senior Ethan Wheeler (Annapolis, MD) logged all 60 minutes in the cage for the Mariners and finished with 11 saves. Chris April earned his first win in goal for JWU, turning back all six shots on goal he faced.
The Mariners (0-10 overall) will open conference play when they host Eastern Nazarene College on Saturday, April 8, at 1:00 pm.
