
Men’s Lacrosse Falls Short against Lasell
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's lacrosse team returned to action on Saturday afternoon, falling 24-2 to Lasell University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Alumni Field.
Freshman Nathan Mahoney (Stonington, Conn.) scored his second goal of the season, while senior Keeano Gonzalez (New London, Conn.) found the back of the net for the first time this spring.
The Lasers were off and running from the opening faceoff, scoring 12 unanswered goals in the first quarter, before tacking on five more in the second frame, before Mahoney scored unassisted with 1:33 on the clock. Gonalez's goal came with just 4:33 left in the game, and he added a game-high 12 ground balls.
In a well-balanced offensive attack, 12 different players scored at least one goal for Lasell, as Jack Conway led the way with five, also assisting on two others. Michael Catalano played the first quarter in goal and got the win without recording a save. Cameron Soave played the rest of the game and turned away five shots.
Sophomore Cameron Haefs (Cary, Ill.) logged all 60 minutes between the pipes and made 14 saves, adding three ground balls and causing one turnover.
Lasell outshot the Mariners 53-9, won 20 of 30 face-offs, and forced 33 Mitchell turnovers.
The Mariners (0-2, 0-2 GNAC) return to play on Wednesday, April 9, on the road in a GNAC tilt against Dean College at 3:30 pm. The Lasers (7-4, 6-1 GNAC) host the University of Saint Joseph on Wednesday, April 9.
