NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team dropped a close 1-0 match to Colby-Sawyer College on Saturday morning in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Alumni Field.
The game remained scoreless for most of the match, with both teams battling hard on defense. Colby-Sawyer finally broke through in the 89th minute, when Sydney Ledoux scored an unassisted goal to give the Chargers the lead with just over a minute left in regulation.
Mitchell sophomore goalkeeper Ronnie Keays (Salem, N.H.) had a strong performance in goal, making 14 saves on 15 shots on goal. The Mariners managed four total shots, with senior Taylor Bialowas (Griswold, Conn.) recording the team's only shot on target.
Colby-Sawyer outshot Mitchell 30-4 overall and held a 12-1 edge in corner kicks. Despite the pressure, Mitchell's defense held strong for nearly the full 90 minutes.
The Mariners (1-4, 0-4 GNAC) will look to bounce back in their next game as they continue conference action at Dean College on Tuesday, September 30, with kickoff scheduled for 3:30 p.m.
