
Women’s Lacrosse Can’t Catch Elms
CHICOPEE, Mass. – Senior Elise Paier finished with a team-high seven goals and added two assists on Thursday night, helping Guide the Elms College women's lacrosse team past Mitchell College 17-2 in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) tilt at Leary Field.
Freshman Rachel Dort added four goals for the Blazers, while sophomore Jackie Cronin scored twice and handed out five assists. Junior Greta Frankwicz also potted two goals in the win for Elms, who snapped a three game losing skid.
Sophomore Lauren Cordero (Selden, N.Y.) was responsible for Mitchell's two goals in the game, the first coming with 1:39 remaining in the first half, and her team leading 11th of the spring coming in the final minutes of the third quarter off an assist from senior Jessica Krupnikoff (Farmington, Conn.)
The Blazers raced out to an early lead, scoring 11 unanswered goals across the opening 15 minutes. The Mariners limited Elms to just one goal in the second quarter, and trailed 12 at halftime, before outscoring Mitchell 5-1 in the second half.
Cordero added one ground ball and caused two turnovers, while senior goalie Hannah Gomes (North Stonington, Conn.) scooped up a team-high three ground balls and caused a team-high three turnovers.
Gomes logged all 60 minutes in goal, recording 14 saves along the way.
Gianna Liquori and Marisa LaRochque played 30 minutes apiece in the cage for Elms and each surrendered one goal. Liquori made three saves.
The Blazers outshot the Mariners 39-8, won 13 of 21 draw controls, and were nearly perfect on clear attempts, converting 14 of 15 opportunities.
The Mariners (0-8, 0-7 GNAC) return to the field on Saturday, April 13th, with a conference road game at Dean College. The Blazers (3-5, 3-4 GNAC) host Lasell University
