
Volleyball Sweeps AMCATS for First GNAC Win of the Season
PAXTON, Mass. – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team picked up their first Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory of the season on Tuesday evening, rolling past Anna Maria College 3-0 at the Fuller Activities Center.
The Mariners never trailed and won convincingly by set scores of 25-13, 25-11, and 25-14.
Freshman Genna Hyde (Cypress, TX) led the Mariners with nine kills and added six digs. Junior Julia Lent (Miller Place, N.Y.) recorded 12 defensive digs, marking the 12th time in 12 matches this season she has reached double-figure digs, while sophomore Kiersten Veenstra (Three Rivers, Mich.) reached double-figures in assists for the 12th time this fall, handing out a match-high 15. Additionally, senior Allison Blum (Garden Grove, Cali.) finished with five kills, six digs, and three service aces in the win for Mitchell.
Bri Franklin and Jana Hunt paced the AMCATS with eight kills apiece. Annie Taylor was credited with a match-best 13 digs for Anna Maria, while Gia Hall handed out 13 assists in the loss.
The Mariners (5-7, 1-1 GNAC) return to action on Thursday, October 3, when they travel across town for a non-conference match against Connecticut College. The AMCATS (1-13, 0-3 GNAC) will be back in action on Friday, October 4, with a non-league match at home against MCLA.
