NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team played to a scoreless draw against Anna Maria College in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action on Wednesday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Prior to the game, the Mariners held senior day to recognize the performance and contributions to the program of their six seniors: Gemma Landry (Lewiston, ME), Francesca Zamarripa (Tampla, Fla.), Sessa Seesock (Jacksonville, Fla.), Hanna Penn (New Fairfield, Conn.), Isabella Avalos (Chino, Cali.), and Ileana Perez (San Antonio, TX).
The two squads engaged in a defensive battle from wire to wire, with the Mariners and AMCATS combining for just 10 shots on goal in the match. Anna Maria outshot Mitchell 11-8 overall, and held a 4-0 edge in corner kick opportunities. Junior Lauren Cordero (Selden, N.Y.) led the Mariners with four shots, two on goal, while Francesca Zamarripa and freshman Ella Caplet (Bozrah, Conn.) each logged a shot on net.
Gemma Landry logged her first shutout of the season, turning away six shots across 90 minutes in goal for Mitchell. Kortney Clark made four saves for Anna Maria.
The Mariners (0-10-1, 0-10-1 GNAC) return to the field on Saturday, October 19, with a GNAC match against Colby Sawyer College. The AMCATS (1-8-4, 1-6-4 GNAC) host Emmanuel College on Saturday, October 19 in their next game.
