
Volleyball Falls in Straight Set Home Match to Dean
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's volleyball team suffered a 3-0 setback on Saturday afternoon to Dean College in a Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) match at the Yarnall Athletic Center.
The Mariners lost by set scores of 25-18, 26-24, and 25-18, dropping their record in conference play to 2-4.
Freshman Genna Hyde (Cypress, TX) racked up a team-high 12 kills to lead the offensive attack for Mitchell. Hyde added nine digs and four service aces, while senior Allison Blum (Garden Grove, Cali.) finished with eight kills and seven digs, and freshman Molly Wordell (East Haddam, Conn.) was credited with seven kills. Junior libero Julia Lent (Miller Place, N.Y.) spearheaded the defensive effort, recording a match-high 17 digs, while senior Crystal Gangi (New Fairfield, Conn.) handed out 14 assists, also a team-high figure. Senior Brooke Taylor (Montville, Conn.) added 13 assists and four digs.
Dean's Maddy Seymour recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 11 assists.
The Mariners (6-11, 2-4 GNAC) will look to get back on track when they travel to Simmons University for a GNAC tri-match with the host Sharks and Regis College. The Bulldogs (6-10, 2-3 GNAC) play next on Tuesday, October 15, at home against New England College.
