
Women's Lacrosse Bested by Colby-Sawyer
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Colby-Sawyer College women's lacrosse team took down Mitchell College by a score of 25-1 on Friday afternoon in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Alumni Field.
Sophomore Chloe Jennings (New London, Conn.) netted her second goal of the season for the Mariners, while adding seven draw controls and three ground balls. Senior Carly Potts (New London, Conn.) added two ground balls and got off one shot in the loss.
The Chargers opened the game with 10 goals in the first quarter, with Rose Finlayson, Soph Kuhlthau, and Madeline Knight collecting two apiece. They would then score three more times to begin the second frame, before Jennings sent home a free position shot with 5:07 on the clock. Colby-Sawyer carried a 15-1 lead at halftime, led 20-1 after three quarters, and added five more goals across the final 15 minutes of play to close things out.
Rose Finlayson finished with five goals and six assists for 10 points, while Andrea Smith and Heather Hanson each found the back of the net four times.
Junior Arrianna Stark (Scotia-Glennville, N.Y.) logged all 60 minutes in goal and turned away a career-best 12 saves. AJ Paton of Colby-Sawyer picked up her third win of the season without registering a save.
Despite getting outshot 45-3, the Mariners were strong at the midfield and trailed the Chargers narrowly, 14-13, in draw controls.
The Mariners (0-2, 0-0 GNAC) will have a chance to bounce back following spring break when they host the Wentworth Institute of Technology on Wednesday, March 19, in a non-conference game at 3:30 pm. The Chargers (3-0, 1-0 GNAC) play next at Simmons University on Saturday, March 15.
