Bulldogs Power Past Women’s Lacrosse
NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's lacrosse team dropped to 1-3 in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) play after suffering a 21-3 defeat at the hands of Dean College on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Sophomore Chloe Jennings (New London, Conn.) registered her third hat trick of the spring for Mitchell, finishing with three goals, four draw controls, and one caused turnover. Junior Lauren Cordero (Selden, N.Y.) led the Mariners with five draw controls, while also assisting on the team's first goal of the day.
The Bulldogs pulled out to an early 5-0 lead, with Natalie Peterson notching a hat trick in the first eight minutes of play. Jennings found the net for the first time off Cordero's assist with one second remaining in the first quarter to make it a 5-1 game after the first 15 minutes. The two squads jockeyed for positioning early in the second stanza, before a goal by Dean's Alisha Caldeira made it 6-1 with 9:13 on the clock. Jennings responded by potting her second goal of the afternoon just over a minute later, but the Bulldogs ended the half on a 6-0 run to make it 12-2 at halftime.
Chloe Jennings opened the second half with her third goal early in the third quarter, but that was all the offense the Mariners could muster on the day, as the Bulldogs finished the game on a 9-0 run.
Natalie Peterson scored a game-high seven goals, while three other players had hat tricks in the win. The Bulldogs outshot the Mariners 39-14, took 15 of 25 draw controls, and forced 16 Mitchell turnovers.
The Mariners (1-5, 1-3 GNAC) will look to rebound when they continue conference play on Wednesday, April 2, with a road tilt at Rivier University. The Bulldogs (6-4, 3-2 GNAC) have won three in a row, and will look to make it four straight when they visit Emmanuel College on Saturday, April 5.
