AMCATS Take Down Women’s Lacrosse
PAXTON, Mass. – Senior midfielder Raegan Hachey scored a game-high five goals for the Anna Maria College women's lacrosse team, helping guide the AMCATS past Mitchell College 24-3 on Tuesday night in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Caparso Field.
Hachey was one of nine players to score for the AMCATS, as Kyana Altfi potted four goals with one assist, and Riley Michaud notched a hat trick while adding an assist of her own. Carly Drew dished out a team high two assists for Anna Maria, who snapped a 1-1 tie with a Hachey goal at the 3:42 mark in the first quarter and never looked back.
After Kyana Altif opened the scoring five and a half minutes into the contest, Mitchell sophomore Lauren Cordero (Selden, N.Y.) scored to bring the game to a draw. Hachey broke the tie, and Carly Drew added a goal to give the AMCATS a 3-1 edge heading into the second quarter. Anna Maria pulled ahead over the ensuing 15 minutes, outscoring the Mariners 13-2 to take a 16-3 advantage into halftime.
Cordero added her second goal of the game and ninth of the season five minutes into the second stanza, while senior Jessica Krupnikoff (Farmington, Conn.) tallied her sixth goal of the spring at the 8:49 mark.
Anna Maria went on to shut out the Mariners in the second half, outscoring Mitchell 8-0.
The AMCATS outshot the Mariners 51-11, won 21 of 30 draw controls, and were 18-19 on clear attempts.
Jessica Krupnikoff scooped up a team-high four ground balls and added one caused turnover. Senior Isabel Foley (Framingham, Mass.) and sophomore Madison Dunn (Brooklyn, N.Y.) caused a pair of turnovers apiece.
Senior Hannah Gomes (North Stonington, Conn.) logged all 60 minutes in goal for Mitchell and turned away a season-high 18 shots.
Sarah Burt played the first half in net for the AMCATS, making four saves while allowing three goals. Gabi Gibson took over in the second half and recorded one save.
The Mariners (0-7, 0-6 GNAC) return to action on Thursday, April 11th, when they face Elms College in a GNAC road showdown at 7:00 pm. The AMCATS (3-7, 2-5 GNAC) next play on Saturday, April 13th, when they travel to Rivier University.
