NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College women's soccer team fell to Emmanuel College 7-0 on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field in their final home contest of the regular season.
Emmanuel sophomore Sarah Dullaghan led the way with four goals, including a first half hat trick, while Addie Legault, Kayla Francillon, and Maya Daryanani each found the back of the net in the win. Dullaghan, along with Melissa Mauro, Kaelyn Briscoe, and Ciara Horan each tallied an assist for the Saints, who held the Mariners to just two shots in the opening half and 10 shots total. The visiting squad wasted little time jumping on top, scoring one minute and 19 seconds into the match on a goal by Legault. Dullaghan notched her first goal of the afternoon 12 minutes later, before tallying her second goal five minutes after that, and rounding out the hat trick in the 37th minute of action.
Entering the second half with a four goal advantage, the Saints scored three more times down the stretch, posting their largest point differential of the fall.
Mitchell freshman Morgan Fontaine (Cheshire, Conn.) got off a team-high three shots, two of them on goal, and senior Elon Johnson (Freeport, BHS) also managed two shots on net. Junior goalkeeper Gemma Landry (Lewiston, ME) finished with double-digit saves for the sixth time this season, turning away a season-high 19 shots.
Sophomore Gaby Baker earned the win for Emmanuel, recording a clean sheet, making eight saves along the way.
The Mariners (4-11-1, 2-11-1 GNAC) will wrap up their regular season on the road on Tuesday, October 24th, traveling for a conference match against New England College at 4:00 pm. The Saints (15-2, 13-1 GNAC) close out their regular season when they host Rivier University on Monday, October 23rd.
