NORTHFIELD, VT. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team fell 3-0 on Saturday evening to Norwich University in Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) action at Sabine Field.
The Mariners were unable to generate much offense against a potent Cadet defense, registering just three shots, none on goal. After playing to a scoreless draw through nearly all of the opening half, Norwich's Ben Rubinstein put the Cadets ahead with six tenths of a second left on the clock, giving the home squad a lead which they would not relinquish.
Oleksandr Kharchuk and Kyle Dunn added second half goals for Norwich, sending the Cadets to their third consecutive victory.
Nathan Da Cruz (Seymour, Conn.), Stephan Contreras (Trumbull, Conn.), and Jose Pacheco (New London, Conn.) were the three Mariners who registered shots in the match.
Sophomore Jesse Jenkins (Windsor, Conn.) turned away five shots for the Mariners, while Nicolas Lanza picked up the win for Norwich without having to make a save.
The Mariners (0-8-1, 0-6 GNAC) will look to right the ship when they return to action at home on Tuesday, October 1, against Elms College for a GNAC tilt with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 pm. The Cadets (3-4, 2-3 GNAC) return to the pitch on Tuesday, October 1, when they travel for a conference showdown at Saint Joseph's College (ME).
