NORTON, Mass. -- Mitchell College suffered a 4-0 setback at 24th-ranked Wheaton College on Wednesday evening in a non-conference men's soccer match-up at Nordin Field.
The Lyons, who cracked the United Soccer Coaches Top 25 NCAA Division III National Poll earlier this week, improved to 8-2-0 overall with their fourth straight win. Will Winter supplied a pair of goals while Avery Santoro assisted on three of the four tallies.
Mitchell goalkeeper Dylan Kinsella finished with a season-high 15 saves. Wheaton held a 31-5 edge in total shots.
The hosts got on the scoreboard in the 31st minute when Alex Nickerson fed a pass into the box that Niall Blackadar chipped into the upper-left corner. Just over nine minutes later, Winter notched his first goal on a header off a long cross by Santoro.
Wheaton took the 2-0 margin into the halftime intermission and didn't add the final two goals until late in the contest. Winter netted his second marker in the 87th minute while Alasdair Ferrier tacked on the finale in the 88th.
Mitchell (0-8-1 overall) returns to league action at Lesley University on Saturday, October 9 at 6 p.m.
