NEW LONDON, Conn. – The Mitchell College men's soccer team posted a 1-0 victory over the College of Mount Saint Vincent in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.
Senior Frank Williams scored the game's only goal in the opening moments of the second half, and the Mitchell defense made the margin stand. Senior goalkeeper Ramazan Sinani made five saves in the contest to record his second shutout of the season.
After a scoreless first half, the Mariners found the back of the net just 22 seconds into the second stanza. Williams put a shot on goal that was turned away by MSV keeper David Melchor, but the rebound was headed back out by senior Nicholas Donahue. The pass found Williams open for a second attempt, and he notched his second tally of the season by firing into the lower-left corner of the goal from 10 yards out.
Mitchell played strong defense the rest of the way and allowed a total of only five shots in the game. Melchor finished with one save against eight shots for the Dolphins.
Mitchell (2-1-0 overall) will next play at Western Connecticut State University on Wednesday, September 10 at 7 p.m. Mount Saint Vincent (1-2-0 overall) returns to action at Hunter College on Wednesday at 3:30 p.m.
