RIVERDALE, N.Y. - The Mitchell College men's soccer team scored a goal in the first half at the College of Mount Saint Vincent on Saturday afternoon and made the margin stand, winning 1-0 in non-conference action at the Athletic Field at Marillac.
Junior Andrew Nigro scored in the 25th minute to give the Mariners the only goal they would need. Sophomore goalie Anthony Drake finished with six saves between the pipes to secure his first career shutout.
Nigro netted his first goal of the season midway through the first half after streaking down the left sideline. He then unleashed a shot that slipped inside the far post to give the Mariners the 1-0 lead.
The Dolphins attempted 21 shots but put only six on goal, and Drake was there each time to turn them away. His final stop came in the 80th minute, and the Mitchell defense kept Mount Saint Vincent in check over the final 10 minutes.
Mitchell (2-3-1 overall) will next play at Albertus Magnus College on Wednesday, September 23 at 4 p.m.
