NEW HAVEN, Conn. -- The Mitchell College men's soccer team picked up its first win of the season on Tuesday evening, topping Albertus Magnus College by a 2-1 final in double overtime at Celentano Field.
Andrew Storton accounted for both Mitchell goals, improving his team-leading total to four on the season. His first marker gave the Mariners an early lead, and the game winner came in the 107th minute to snap a 1-1 deadlock.
Goalkeeper Seth Strader finished with three saves to pick up the win. The Mariners held a 6-3 edge in corner kicks while shots were even at 11 apiece.
Five minutes into the game, Mitchell capitalized on offense as Storton found the back of the net off a feed from Jarron Walter to give the visitors the early 1-0 edge. The Mariners carried the advantage into the halftime intermission, and the score held until Kervin Franco equalized in the 84th minute to force overtime.
The first overtime featured just a single shot that was turned away by Strader, forcing another 10 minute period. In the second OT, Storton drew a penalty kick with 3:43 remaining in the contest and converted for the winner.
Mitchell (1-3-1 overall) will next open conference play at Elms College on Saturday, September 23 at 5 p.m.
